Horizon Europe – Deadlines in September 2022

When we saw the more than 100 Horizon Europe topics with deadlines in September 2022, we could not help wondering about the overall effort currently being invested in the quest to write excellent and competitive proposals. However, while a few hundreds or even thousands of coordinators will be working on proposals throughout this summer, it is impossible to estimate the exact number of consortia that will be formed. And as much as we would like to be able to present a comprehensive list of the newly founded consortia, most coordinators keep their efforts secret.

Topics with September 2022 deadlines deal with a wide variety of disciplines. More than 30 topics address the 5 EU Missions. There are a number of topics covering battery technologies, efficient energy use, transport, hydrogen technologies and key digital technologies such as photonics and electronics. Topics outlining European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) projects to address the goals of EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) have also been published. In addition, there are topics developed by the European Innovation Council (EIC), from the European Innovation Ecosystem (EIE) Work Programme, and from the Cluster 2 Work Programme “Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society”.

All topics are published on the European Commission's Funding & Tender Opportunities portal with links to the respective Work Programmes. While all published calls follow Horizon Europe rules, many topics have special admissibility and eligibility conditions.

Swiss-based applicants are eligible for participation in most of the Horizon Europe topics, including in Coordination and Support Actions (CSA). However, they cannot coordinate projects due to the "Third Country" status of Switzerland with respect to Horizon Europe. Funding for Swiss participation is provided by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

Euresearch offers a proposal review service for Swiss-based participants who are providing significant contributions to Horizon Europe proposals. Yet even the most diligent and thorough examination of a proposal cannot replace an in-depth analysis of the call texts at the very beginning of the proposal preparation process. We therefore highly recommend that you contact Euresearch advisors early, to challenge them with all types of questions, and schedule a date for a proposal review well in advance.
