Horizon Europe 2023-2024 Work Programmes

They have been rumoured about, they have been leaked and now they are finally here! The European Commission has published the Horizon Europe 2023-2024 Work Programmes.

The Work Programmes (WPs) contain the funding opportunities in Horizon Europe (HE) for the next two years. They cover all major domains in HE – health, culture, society, digital technologies, industry, space, climate, energy, mobility, food and agriculture – as well as all types of grants – mono-beneficiary, collaborative, and doctoral and postdoctoral training – and include opportunities for companies.

Hundreds of topics are available for a total budget of €13.5 billion in 2023. The WPs show a clear consolidation of the main areas for action, so-called "Destinations", from the first two years of HE. Topics build on previous calls, and in some cases, are moving towards testing and implementation. The final goal remains clear – a green and digital transformation of Europe.

Horizon Europe is open to universities, research institutes, individual researchers, start-ups and large companies. Municipalities and end-users like citizen organisations are also encouraged to participate. Funding opportunities are available for all project maturity levels, from basic principles to system prototypes. The vast majority of these funding opportunities are accessible to Swiss organisations. Researchers and innovators in Switzerland participate as "Associated Partners" and successful applicants receive funding from the Swiss Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation.

Here is how to take advantage of this unprecedented funding opportunity: Read the WPs, identify a topic of interest, and start looking for partners. To support you, a series of information and partnering events are planned for the coming months. We are also organising info events on the basics of HE and training workshops on proposal writing. The National Contact Points at Euresearch are very familiar with the structure and content of the WPs. Contact us if you need any help on your journey into European funding.
