ERC Advanced Grants:

The ERC supports another 294 top researchers in Europe

With a budget of just over €660 million, the European Research Council (ERC) is funding 294 top researchers in the fourth competition for its Advanced Grants. These established scientists will perform ground-breaking 'blue sky' research over the coming five years across Europe. Open to all domains, the grants are worth up to €3.5 million each.

Ranked by the number of institutions hosting grantees, the UK (68), Germany (52), and France (31) are the most successful countries in this call. Switzerland, ranked 5th with 22 grants, has again proved to be an attractive place for top researchers. In terms of grants per inhabitants or grants per researcher, Switzerland is again the most successful country.
7 grants are awarded to researchers at ETHZ, 4 to researchers at EPFL. The Universities of Geneva and Zurich attracted 3 grants each. 2 grants go to the University of Basel, one to University of Fribourg, one to IBM research labs in Rüschlikon, and one to CERN.

For more information read the EC press releases. Have a look at the statistics and at the list with the names of the awarded researchers.
