    European Research Council (ERC)

    It is all about excellence!

The ERC funds ground-breaking frontier research projects across all fields of science, in order to support European leadership in world-class research. Support is given to individual outstanding Principal Investigators of any nationality on the basis of scientific excellence.

There are 5 main types of ERC grants:

Starting Grant (StG) for researchers 2-7 years after award of PhD.

Consolidator Grant (CoG) for researchers 7-12 years after award of PhD.

Advanced Grant (AdG) for established research leaders.

Synergy Grant (SyG) for 2-4 outstanding PIs with complimentary background.

Proof of Concept Grant (PoC) to explore the innovation potential of the PI's research results

ERC projects are normally of a high-risk/high-gain nature, cross traditional disciplinary boarders and/or apply innovative approaches.

ERC grantees can be of any nationality and work anywhere in the world at the time of proposal submission. The proposed host institution must be located in Europe (and needs to confirm their association with the project and support of the Principal Investigator).
