It is all about excellence!
The ERC funds ground-breaking frontier research projects across all fields of science to support European leadership in world-class research. Support is given to outstanding Individual Principal Investigators of any nationality based on the scientific excellence of their project proposal.
There are 5 main types of ERC grants:
Starting Grant (StG) for researchers 2-7 years post PhD.
Consolidator Grant (CoG) for researchers 7-12 years post PhD.
Advanced Grant (AdG) for established research leaders.
Synergy Grant (SyG) for 2-4 outstanding PIs with complimentary background.
Proof of Concept Grant (PoC) to explore the innovation potential of the PI's research results
ERC projects are normally based on high-risk/high-gain research that crosses traditional disciplinary boarders and/or applies innovative approaches.
ERC grantees can be of any nationality and work anywhere in the world at the time of proposal submission. The proposed host institution must be located in Europe and must to confirm association with the project and support of the Principal Investigator.
