Results of the ERC Synergy Grant Call are Published
"The whole is something else than the sum of its parts." This famous phrase can be aptly applied to the ERC Synergy Grant scheme. This scheme enables groups of 2 to 4 principle investigators to bring together complementary skills, knowledge and resources to jointly address research problems at the frontiers of science.
The evaluation of the 2018 Synergy Grant call is now concluded and the names of the grant winners and their projects have been published. The ERC will fund 27 projects that engage a total of 88 principal investigators, who will carry out their projects at 63 universities and research centres in 17 countries. In 6 of these projects, there are a total of 11 principal investigators from Swiss host institutions on board. Their topics range from the physical sciences and life sciences to the social sciences and humanities, and the projects are often of an interdisciplinary nature. Demand for these grants was high: 295 research proposals were evaluated, of which 9% were selected for funding. Some 15% of the grantees are women.
The ERC Synergy Grant 2019 call closed on 8 November. We are crossing our fingers for the applicants from Switzerland and hope that the ERC will also offer a call for proposals for 2020.
