Horizon Europe, the new EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation is fast approaching and the excitement is rising.
A few weeks ago, the run-up to Christmas made the eyes of so many children sparkle as they looked forward to the impending festivities and their presents. The preparations for Horizon Europe are having the same effect on the National Contact Points in Switzerland and all around Europe. They may be experienced adults, and many of them seasoned former researchers, but the arrival of a brand-new Framework Programme (FP) packed with new ideas and possibilities does not leave them indifferent. Even the old hands among us who have seen more than one FP come and go are not as cool and detached anymore as we were (pretending to be?) a couple of months ago. We just cannot help being infected by the expectant mood and are getting more and more impatient to share all the information with you, our readers.
And it is not only the FP that will change. To celebrate the advent of Horizon Europe, Euresearch is also preparing internally by overhauling our website and our visual identity to match the new arrival. Watch this space!
Having said that, the European institutions (European Commission, Parliament and Council) have not yet made up their mind as to whether Switzerland will be able to participate in Horizon Europe as a fully associated country. It goes without saying that the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) is working tirelessly to get you an invitation to the party that starts on 1 January 2021. But even without the association, SERI will be ready to fund successful Swiss beneficiaries from the very beginning.
And now, how excited are you?

No Synergy Grant call will likely be included in Work Programme (WP) 2021 but the continuation of the Synergy Grant scheme is expected from WP 2022 on.
