Author: Mathilde Vivot, NCP Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing

An UK company is planning to submit an Eurostars application for a project around the creation of a novel rapid point of care diagnostic testing kit for bacterial infections. Their technology will have the ability to capture and amplify samples from patients in order to identify the bacterial content. The cut off deadline for the submission is 15 September 2016 and the deadline for Expression of Interest is 15 August 2016.

Presentation of the technology and company

The company is developing a novel nanoparticle-based diagnostic toolkit to identify at the point of care what particular course of antibiotics is right for the patient. The test will identify whether the patient has a viral, non-infectious or bacterial infection and therefore whether antibiotics would be an appropriate treatment at all. Inefficient use of our antibiotic resources is significantly contributing to increased antimicrobial resistance worldwide. They are looking for a partner who can translate their diagnostic kit into a tabletop electronic device with connectivity with IT/Online systems. This technology will capture the data from their nanoparticle based diagnostic test and convert it into analysable data by rapidly identifying the bacterial type (if any are present) and thereby helping the medical professional to inform their clinical diagnosis of the patient.

    Partner sought
They are ideally looking for a partner (outside UK) with experience in the development of medical devices for analytical and diagnostic applications. Potential partner can translate a diagnostic kit into a tabletop electronic device with connectivity with IT/ online systems.
