Objectives: The transformation of the current energy system based primarily on fossil fuels into a more sustainable system. The technologies developed must address the twin challenges of security of supply and climate change whilst at the same time increasing the competitiveness of the European energy sector.

- Near-zero emission generation, including clean coal technology as well as the capture and storage of CO2
