Objectives
The aim of the Work Programme Science in Society SiS is to develop a cultural and social environment that encourages research and the use of its results without neglecting the debate on potential risks and dangers. At the same time, a climate favourable to those seeking a vocation or career in science shall be created. Only if all parts of society are able to understand the issues at stake and if researchers respect the legitimate concerns with regard to high-risk research will the necessary democratic debate be possible.
Structure
The programme Science in Society is part of the horizontal programme Capacities, where various disciplines are addressed. Nevertheless its organisation is 'top-down', which means that applicants have to answer clearly defined topics. Please note that many of these topics do not call for research activities proper but for Coordination and Support Actions and Public Procurement.
Further information on the content and structure of the Science in Society programme can be found in the R&D Guide SiS.
Target Audience
Apart from researchers at universities or universities of applied science, in research institutes or in the private sector, public actors and stakeholders such as government and non-governmental agencies and organisations or local authorities are particularly welcome to participate in this programme.
